Bump Update: 20 Weeks!

I realized that I haven’t given any updates on the blog yet about sweet baby Thoennes! Let’s hit some highlights and get caught up….

We’re pregnant!!

Now, how we found out we’re pregnant was nothing magical. At all. *Warning, TMI* Let me preface by saying that our plan for kids was to wait 2 or 3 years after being married (we got married in June of 2017).  The pill was doing some funky things to my body that I didn’t like, so I stopped taking it early November and we were being careful to still stick to our “plan.” In early January, Mother Nature was a couple days late, but ya know, I figured that would be the case after getting off the pill. But Matt, who was home playing video games because his school had a snow day, wanted me to test just in case. I was eager to prove him wrong, so I obliged. And a big fat plus sign immediately showed up.

Cue the shock, tears, joy, and fear from both of us.

I was convinced the test was somehow invalid. So naturally I go to the store early the next morning for a new test. And in big letters: Pregnant.

Well, guess that can’t be argued. Especially since the nausea started immediately after I took that test.

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2018: 6 Weeks

At this point, the morning sickness was no joke. Add in the stress and emotions of losing my little brother a few days prior, my body was not havin’ it. There had been blood in my vomit the previous day from getting sick so often. Then Tuesday morning, I had gotten sick 4 times before 10am and I couldn’t even keep water down. I was extremely dehydrated and weak, so this girl got to spend 4 hours at the hospital getting fluids and anti-nausea meds!

I apparently don’t do anything the easy way. I gave Matt and the nurses a scare when I passed out and got sick after they started the fluids… yeah I don’t do well with needles…

The severe morning sickness continued, so my doctor’s office put me on 3 Diclegis and 2 Zofran a day. Even with all of that anti-nausea medicine, I still constantly felt nauseous and got sick at least once a day. Mind you, all of this was before I had even seen my doctor for my first appointment!

After we found out that my oldest sister and her husband are also expecting (our due dates are 6 days apart!), we told our other sister, and got to all plan together how to tell my parents. And as most of you know now, we told my parents after an extremely hard week when my little brother passed away. If you haven’t seen the video, you have to watch.

We had Matt’s parents and sister down for dinner Saturday evening so we could tell them the big news! We had already told Matt’s sister and her husband, so she helped get their reactions on camera. Matt thought it would be the funniest thing to let his dog Bear share the news… safe to say they were definitely shocked when our 2 or 3 year plan turned into 1!

*Her sign says “I, Bear, pledge to protect baby from evil squirrels. Duty Starts: September 2018”

Monday, February 5th, 2018: 8 Weeks

First doctor’s appointment! Matt got to go with me to the first ultrasound and we heard baby’s heartbeat loud and strong! It is SUCH an amazing feeling to hear those magical “thump, thump, thump, thumps.” Baby looked great with a heart rate of 173 and was measuring right on track – our estimated due date was confirmed to be September 14th, 2018!

The next couple months were a bit of a blur as I worked from home most days unable to get off the couch. I was pretty convinced at this point that the sickness was never actually going to end. But Matt was always as sweet as could be getting any food that I could stomach, cleaning up the house for me, taking care of the dogs, and bringing me medicine when I could finally take another dose!

It’s so much fun that Hannah and I are both pregnant. We got to share the news with our extended family and give them to “double shock” like we did with our parents. The reactions just never got old! Then after we shared with our family, Matt and I shared with the world at about 11 weeks:

12 Weeks

The bump is starting to appear! Baby’s heartbeat stayed high at 167 and my morning sickness was still not going anywhere.

16 Weeks

I think this is when Chick-Fil-A workers started to recognize me because I was going so often for lunch… baby gets what baby wants! Thankfully, my morning sickness was starting  to get under control and I was able to eat some more foods. I also felt a flutter for the first time! Such a cool feeling! Baby’s heart rate was 163 and sounded great.

May 1st, 2018: 20 Weeks

We got to see the little nugget again! There are just no words for how amazing it is to see that little baby growing big and strong inside of you. The ultrasound showed that baby Thoennes is growing perfectly with all the right parts, everything in the right place, and measuring right on track. Heartbeat had been hovering in the 160’s, but was down to 139 this day. I was 95% sure we are having a girl, but now I’m not so sure!

Our gender reveal party was the 12th of this month and it was SO fun to find out if baby T is a boy or girl while surrounded by some of our closest family and friends! I’ll save the reveal until that post coming soon.. 😉
